As an organization committed to disability justice, Disability Rights Washington recognizes the interconnectedness of all struggles for justice and human rights. We join our statewide partners in signing the Washington Solidarity Statement for Peace and Justice in Israel/Palestine: Washington Solidarity Statement (google.com) [1]
In armed conflicts and humanitarian crises, disabled communities often bear among the greatest burdens. Without a lasting ceasefire, we will continue to see more disabled people cut off from necessary medical services and supports, and growing numbers of people entering the disability community because of mental and physical trauma.
Our commitment to disability justice is grounded in the understanding that our liberation is intertwined. We stand firm in our commitment to challenging all structures of injustice. In solidarity with our Muslim, Jewish, Israeli, and Palestinian community members – and all those affected by the ongoing violence – we affirm the demand for a ceasefire and urgent provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and the release of any hostages in this or any other conflict worldwide.
As advocates and organizers, we strive to create a world where the resilience and interdependence displayed by our communities become guiding forces for acts of love and solidarity in our work. To uphold this commitment, we continue to engage in education, advocacy, and allyship, and seek to center the voices of those most impacted, within our organization, state, and globally. We will continue to explore what that means daily at Disability Rights Washington. Together, we work toward the creation of a world that is just, equitable, and free.
